The Totem Curse!

The Totem Curse is a Poptropica fan-fiction being written by me. The prologue and first 3 chapters have been posted on my blog and Explore, Collect, Compete, and now I’m happy to announce that any future chapters will be posted here, too! But, we have to get caught up first…

WARNING: THIS POST IS EXTREMELY LONG

Prologue-

Do you ever wonder why there are so many villains in Poptropica? Almost all of them have the same goal- power, wealth, controlling the entire world. Although they all have different personalities, they all seem, well, just plain evil. Except for four of them. You know, Binary Bard, Captain Crawfish, Black Widow, and especially Dr. Hare. These villains seemed like every other villain, until they returned in Super Villain Island, where you removed their villain totems, the source of their evil, making them good again.

But, where did these totems come from? What even are they? And were these villains even supposed to become bad in the first place? Or were they destined to become the worst villains in history in a prophecy as old as Poptropica itself? Well, to find that out, we need to go back…

Chapter 1: A Trip Down Memory Lane-

*September 1997, 24 Carrot Island*

Whatever you do, DON’T remind Harvey H. Hare of his childhood. I’m not saying it was bad or anything, it’s just that he grew up on the world’s most famous carrot farm. And he sure didn’t like THAT at all.

Harvey was born on August 4, 1980, at the 24 Carrot Island Hospital. He has two older brothers, Harry Hare and Henry Hare Jr. Their parents, Henry Hare Sr. and Hannah Hare, are the proud owners of Funny Bunny Carrot Farm, and have always dreamed that their sons would one day take over the farm when their parents retired. Henry and Harry loved being farmers and that made their parents proud. But, Harvey was different.

You see, Harvey was a genius. In fact, he skipped grades 2 and 5. He loved science, especially chemistry. And unlike his two older brothers, Harvey planned to leave the farm to go to college, and never come back.

He and his brothers often argued about this, they never really got along. Especially since Harry and Harvey were in the same grade, even though Harvey was 2 years younger.

Harvey was often made fun of in school. Being the youngest, he had a hard time making real friends. This didn’t bother him, though. As long as he had science, he was happy. Until that time in middle school.

It was a normal day, when all of a sudden one of Harry’s friends held up a photo.

“Hey look! It’s a picture of Harvey in a bunny suit! Hahaha!”

Everyone started to laugh.

Harvey remembered that photo. It was from when he was 9 years old and was dressed up for Halloween. Harry must have found it and gave it to his friends.

Harvey told everyone to stop, but it wouldn’t help. After that terrible day, the bullying never seemed to end. People constantly called him names like “Bunny Boy.”

Luckily, Harvey had a best friend. His older cousin, Charlotte. Like Harry, Charlotte was 2 years older than Harvey. But she was one of the only people who accepted Harvey for who he was. Her dad was Harold Hare, the younger brother of Henry Hare Sr. He never liked farming, but loved art, so he moved to Counterfeit Island and eventually married an artist named Claire, and a few years later Charlotte was born. Charlotte grew up loving art too, but she was never that good at it, so she visited the local art museum often. She also visited her cousins on 24 Carrot Island every few months.

And then the worst happened. When Charlotte was 13, her parents died in a car crash. The same day they were going to see “the Scream” at the museum. That painting only comes there every 5 years or so. Charlotte swore to herself that one day the Scream would be hers so no one else could enjoy it.

After the funeral, Charlotte moved in with her aunt and uncle at the carrot farm. She and Harvey became even better friends as they now shared a room. Harvey  wasn’t so alone any longer.

But Charlotte was still mourning. The only thing she had left from her parents was her mother’s beautiful paintbrush. She loved that paintbrush. However, at the time, she had no idea that it was cursed.

That was years ago, though. It was 1997 now. Harvey, at 17 years old, was finally going to go to the National Institute of Silly Sciences, his dream college. Charlotte, 19, an adult, was going to study at the National Institute of the Arts, which is just a few miles away from N.I.S.S.

As Harvey said his goodbyes to his family, he knew he might never come back. He was wrong. Exactly 10 years later, he would return as the world’s most evil super villain, Dr. Hare.

But, a lot happened before that…

Chapter 2: Welcome to the N.I.S.S.-

*September 1997 – Shark Tooth Island*

The boat ride to Shark Tooth Island seemed to take forever, even though it was only a half hour trip. Then, it was a 5 minute walk to the center of the little island, where the National Institute of Silly Sciences was located, and where Harvey was going to college. Next to it was the National Institute of the Artistic Arts. Or at least it was supposed to be.

Harvey: “WHAT THE HECK!?! THIS IS THE N.I.S.S.!?!”

Instead of being that huge, modern building the photos of it showed, it instead looked pretty old and was the size of a small elementary school. And the National Institute of the Artistic Arts was nowhere to be found.

Just then a man who looked about 35 years old in a suit walked out of the building, along with a few students.

“Oh, you’re finally here! My name is Dr. Bill Nye! Welcome to the N.I.S.S.!”

Charlotte: “Um, where’s the National Institute of the Artistic Arts? It’s supposed to be next to the N.I.S.S.!”

Dr. Bill Nye: “Oh, oops. I forgot to tell you. The N.I.A.A. doesn’t exist anymore! It is instead a part of the N.I.S.S! Sorry! :D”

Charlotte: “Whatever…weirdo. I can’t believe you lied about this place.”

Harvey: “Um, how many people are actually at this college, anyway?”

Dr. Bill Nye: “33! Isn’t that great? :D”

Charlotte: “Not really. No wonder this place is so small!”

Dr. Bill Nye: “Yup! We almost went bankrupt! Thanks to you two paying money to get here, this college will survive! :D”

Harvey: “You got to be kidding me…”

Dr. Bill Nye: “I would like to present a few of the best students here! First we have Summer Sunshine! Yes, that IS her real name! Her favorite hobby other than science is surfing!”

Summer Sunshine: “OMZ did I just get a bug in my beautiful blonde hair?!? EWWWW GET IT OFF OF ME!!!”

Dr. Bill Nye: “Next, we have another new student- Bob!”

Bob: “I change my mind! I don’t want to go to college. I want to work in the Shark Museum on Main Street! My new name is SHARK GUY! Bye!”

Dr. Bill Nye: “OK then! 😀 And now I introduce our smartest student yet- Robert Jones!”

Robert: “For the last time, I prefer to be called MORDRED!!! You know, my middle name!”

Dr. Bill Nye: “Oh, Ok. Well, now let’s go on a tour of the-“

Harvey: “That’s it. Tell me why the college looks totally different than in the picture, and why are you so happy about it?”

Dr. Bill Nye: *Blushes* “Hehe, what are you talking about?” *fake smile*

Harvey and Charlotte stare at him.

Dr. Bill Nye: “Fine. I confess. This university WAS one of the best in Poptropica. It was lead by Professor Hammerhead, the famous shark scientist that made this island, and college, famous. But, just a few months ago, he went missing. Some said he was chased by the Great Booga Shark. Either way, the N.I.S.S. fell apart, and is barely surviving. Now I have to take over for Hammerhead. Please promise that you’ll give it a chance. Please?”

Harvey: “Yes. I will.”

Charlotte: “You mean, WE will.”

Harvey: “Yep. Let’s do this!”

Dr. Bill Nye: “THANK YOU! Now I’ll get to keep my job for at least a few more years! Let’s go inside-“

Summer Sunshine: “Uh-NOW I THINK I SWALLOWED THE BUG HELP!!!” *Starts running around in circles.*

Harvey: “This is going to take some getting used to…”

Chapter 3: The Secret Meeting-

Shark Tooth Island – September 1997

Later that day, Dr. Bill Nye showed Harvey and Charlotte where their rooms were and their roommates.

Dr. Bill Nye: “Harvey, you’ll be sharing your dorm with Robert! :D!”

Robert: “For the last time, I prefer to be called MORDRED!!!

Harvey: “Great… -_-”

Dr. Bill Nye “Charlotte, you’ll be staying with Summer Sunshine! :D”

Charlotte and Summer Sunshine: “NOOO YOU CAN’T DO THIS!!!”

Dr. Bill Nye: “Sorry! We just don’t have many rooms at this college, so I had to pair you two up. Have fun! :D”

That night, Robert/Mordred talked to Harvey in their dorm.

Robert/Mordred (whatever you want to call him…): “You know, I’m working on a really cool experiment upstairs in the lab… it’s totally top secret. Do you want to see it?”

Harvey: “Ok…”

Robert/Mordred: “We’ll have to wait until tomorrow. Goodnight.”

Harvey fell asleep right away, but Robert/Mordred couldn’t sleep.

“Why did I tell him?” he thought. “Now it’s too late!”

Just then he heard a noise. It was Dr. Bill Nye talking to Summer Sunshine… in the middle of the night? Robert put on a black outfit to disguise himself, and went over to Charlotte’s and Summer’s dorm to see what was going on.

Dr. Bill Nye: “It’s time for the meeting. Let’s go.”

Bill Nye and Summer walked down into the basement. Robert followed.

Dr. Bill Nye: “Hehe. All of those fake smiles…I’m no Mr. Nice Guy.”

Summer: “I know.”

In the basement, a woman who Robert had never seen before stood there. She had long chocolate brown hair and wore a purple tunic. She looked like she was pulled out of Ancient Greece.

Dr. Bill Nye: “Lavenda. There you are. We need to discuss what we are going to do about the 4. He should be here any minute now.”

Robert, who was hiding behind a corner, wondered who “he” was. But before he could realize it…

There was a flash of lightning.

Dr. Bill Nye: “Oh, hello Zeus. I see you got here a few minutes early…”

Chapter 4: The Prophecy will be released this Saturday! 😀
