A Hero’s Journey: Chapter Three, Part One

(This chapter is so long that I had to divide it into parts so I could release something. Enjoy!)

Chapter Three: Poptropica’s Savior- Part One

Continued…

I stood where I was in shock. I thought, “Me?  A superhero?” I looked at my hands in awe, and flew off. I decided to go to the Jungle planet, as it was the nearest planet, aside from Poptropica. On my way, I nearly collided with an alien ship, and they were NOT happy about it. They started shooting at me and I responded with my own firepower. Just when it seemed I was about to  lose, I saw a comet and it gave me a power like nothing I had ever felt, or even read about! Super-charged with the sight of the comet, I defeated my enemies.

I was in shock. Nothing like this had ever happened to anyone before! But then I remembered a prophecy that said,

Poptropica needs a team

of true heroes to defend

Its former glory

until the very end.

I thought, “Could it be? Could be a hero on the team?” Then I realized what I had never understood, why my parents died, or at least my mom. I realized that I couldn’t have become a superhero if my mom was alive as a person, because there could only be one living superhero in a single family, current or former, because it would upset a balance of power in the family.

After the realization, I went on my way to the Jungle Planet, singing, “Cutting a ribbon of hope the sky, giving everything life…” Soon, I reached the Jungle Planet. Sir Cador thought I was a comet, which was supposed to be a sign of bad luck. He said, “It’s a comet! Help!” His outcry gave me an idea for a name. I said, “Not just any comet! I’m… Super Comet!” He was terrified until I said, “It’s okay. I’m here to help.” I took off my mask and he recognized me. He asked, “Friendly Comet? What are you doing here?” I replied, “I’m doing what you’re doing. I’m trying to save Princess Jaguar.” He said, “I get that, but how did you get here?” I smiled and replied, “I have special powers. It’s hard to explain. Come on, let’s go find Sir Gawain!” He said, “Okay, but how do you propose we get there?” I grinned and handed him an oxygen mask. “Put this on and hold on tight,” I instructed.

We tore off through space towards the Ice Planet. I stopped short when I saw the space sharks, nearly slinging Sir Cador towards them. “Sorry,” I said. He said, “It’s okay.” I backed up and then went in at full speed. Just before we got in, they noticed us and started chasing us. I was going too fast to stop and turn around, and the biggest shark was about to chomp us! Just when it seemed that we were going to die, I got fast enough to warp to safety. We tumbled into the snow, dazed but safe. Amazed, Sir Cador asked, “How did you do that?” I replied, “I don’t know!” We hiked up the mountain and met Sir Gawain. Sir Cador filled him in on our little adventure. Sir Gawain looked at me, astonished. “How- who- why- what- HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE!?!” I replied, “I don’t know much more than you do.”

I blasted the Tigercopter, and after checking for the princess, Sir Cador, Sir Gawain, and I warped to the Fire Planet to find Sir Pelleas in hopes that he had found the princess. When we got there, we met Sir Pelleas at the mouth of a cave. Sir Cador told the story until the Ice Planet, then Sir Gawain told him the rest of the story. Sir Pelleas’ reaction was about the same as Sir Gawain’s, except he stayed a little calmer. I went in the cave to battle the Dragotank while the knights talked about their adventures before I came along. I concentrated super-hard and shot out more power than I knew I had! After I defeated the Dragotank, I flew off with the knights to the Crystal Asteroid. I pulled the key, and was sucked into the portal. When I reached the other side, I saw Princess Jaguar! There was something funny about her clothes though…

To be continued in Part Two…

Note: The part after the prophecy is a little weird because I had to change the prophecy a little to fit with future chapters and I DID NOT want to have to rewrite the entire paragraph. I was already WAY off schedule.

The Totem Curse- Chapter 13: An Unlikely Hero

Continued from Chapter 12

In just 4 days, Poppy had saved Early Poptropica, Monkey Wrench, Shark Tooth, and Time Tangled. She was finally the explorer who would visit every single island in all of Poptropica. The thing she didn’t know, though, was that her parents were super worried and had called the police and other emergency services to find her and bring her back home. They were starting to get worried that Poppy was kidnapped or something. And Daisy didn’t even care that much.

On the fifth morning, she landed her blimp on 24 Carrot Island, just to find the worse. Buildings were falling apart, and the people living there were in a terrible mood.

Mayor: “Help us! All of our carrots have been stolen! And carrots are 24 Carrot Island’s main purpose. So, in just a couple weeks, the island’s entire economy has fallen apart! Now we are stuck on the streets with no jobs.  I have no idea who caused this. *cries*”

Poppy: “I don’t understand. How can entire island’s economy fall apart in just a few weeks? Makes no sense to me. Maybe I-”

Just then a waiter from the local diner came running up to the mayor, holding a few pictures.

Waiter: “OH NO!!! 4 kids went missing yesterday- and one of them is my son! WAHHH!!!!!”

Poppy: “Don’t worry. I can help.”

Waiter: “Why should we trust you? You’re just a kid. You could just get kidnapped like my son was! WAHHHHH!!!!!”

Poppy just walked away.

A Few Hours Later…

Poppy: “Yasss….I finally got in this old factory! Maybe I will finally-AHHH!!!”

The kids who had gone missing had weird robotic bunny ears on their heads and spinning green eyes. They were being mind controlled!

Kid: “What. Are. You. Doing. Here? Dr. Hare. Must. Stop. The. Intruder immediately! Fellow minions assemble!”

The other three kids race to where Poppy was standing.

Poppy: “Uh…well I’m really sorry about this, but I gotta go…”

Poppy then quickly ran away from Dr. Hare’s minions and entered the closest room she could find. She ran so quickly that the security system couldn’t even check to see if she was a minion or not.

However, the room she entered was not what she thought it would be- the was a giant robot rabbit thing, and suddenly she saw a full grown man in a bunny suit yell, “Who are you, and how did you get through my security systems? I’m the evil genius Dr. Hare!”

Poppy: “You’re Dr. Hare?!? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!”

Dr. Hare: “Yes, and why are you laughing at an evil genius like me?!?”

Poppy: “If you’re some kind of “evil genius,” then why are you wearing a bunny suit?!? HAHAHAHAHAHA-”

Dr. Hare: “Because I want to, and since I’m an adult I do whatever the heck I want. So please stop before I stop you myself.”

Poppy kept laughing, which was a very bad decision.

Dr. Hare: “That’s it. Minions, come over here and help me get these rabbit ears on this here little girl.”

Poppy: “I’m not a little girl! I’m 13!”

Dr. Hare: “Whatever. I started high school when I was 13.”

The mind-controlled kids then put a pair of rabbit ears on Poppy. However, they forgot to turn them on, which only Poppy knew.

Dr. Hare: “Now Poppy, go use this password to launch my Rabbot into space. In space I will mind control all of Poptropica. Then I will finally be able to rue the world….and steal every carrot in the universe! Muhahahahaha!”

Dr. Hare then jumped into his Rabbot.

Poppy had no choice but to type in the password. But as the Rabbot launched, she realized that she had full control over the Rabbot. So she made it crash into a few asteroids.

Dr. Hare: “NOOO!!! YOU CAN’T DO THIS TO ME!!! AHHH!!!!”

The Rabbot broke, and was left floating around in outer space- with Dr. Hare still in it.

After defeating Dr. Hare, Poppy was officially considered a hero. She got another medallion from the mayor, and she was all over the news. Soon everyone in Poptropica knew of her heroism…including her parents, who were no longer so angry at her.

But know she was being forced to continue saving islands. So it was no surprise that just a few days later she was in a castle somewhere in outer space, in battle with the Binary Bard.

She had landed on Astro Knights Island a day earlier, where Arturus had been destroyed by “invaders from beyond the sky.” She learned about an inventor named Mordred who helped the kingdom, but was accused of dark magic and eventually escaped into space. Most people had thought that he had died…except for Princes Elyana (who he ended up kidnapping) and the Order of Mordred.  She put together the clues, and ended up on a mission to space to save Elyana, and also some knights along the way. There was then this whole Chosen One portal thingy and all (the Crystal Gate) and Poppy ended up at the Bard’s fortress.

With the help of Merlin and Elyana, Mordred was defeated, and like Dr. Hare, trapped in space, this time in his castle.

Poppy: “That was my most stressful adventure yet! I almost died…like 5 times. Ugh.”

Little did she know that that was only the beginning of her adventures as the Unlikely Hero of Poptropica…

Note: You might be wondering why most of the chapter was 24 Carrot and only a little bit was Astro-Knights, and upset that Binary Bard got no lines in this chapter. That’s because most of the actual plot line in Astro-Knights Island was about Mordred’s backstory and stuff, but I already explained the Totem Curse version in Chapter 5 and Chapter 6. Also, TBH, I couldn’t really come up with a twist for it, but I did for 24 Carrot, so that’s that. Plus, this chapter was getting kind of long anyway.

The Totem Curse- Chapter 12: A Girl Named Poppy

Once upon a time, on June 15, 1994, Poppy Piper Andrews was born, in Early Poptropica. She lived in one of the apartments at Poptropica Towers, with her parents, Rose and Florian (not the one from Pelican Rock), and her older sister, Daisy.

For most of her childhood, Poppy was like every other kid and had many friends. She and her friends, and sometimes even Daisy, would role-play going on epic adventures with pirates and spies and super villains. So it was no surprise that Poppy dreamed of becoming an explorer when she grew up. She was always ready for adventure. She even had a huge map of all the islands in Poptropica hanging on a wall in her room.

But everything changed when she started middle school. Her friends suddenly stopped caring about her adventure games, and starting hanging out with the popular girls. Poppy tried to make new friends, but everyone already had them and no one noticed her or even cared. Yet her imagination and intelligence allowed for her to survive 6th, and then 7th grade. Soon it was her 13th birthday.

Delays…

Sorry for the extreme delay for the next chapter of A Hero’s Journey! I got sick with the flu. And I’m probably going to be a little longer because I just got a violin and started lessons. 😛 But, I am working on it. (I probably should have done this post sooner. LOL.)

Happy poppin’,

The Totem Curse- Chapter 11: Experiment Gone Wrong

Continued From Chapter 10

Harvey was now officially alone. No friends, no one he could trust. Sure, there was his roommate, Michael Silva, but he was a jerk. The only company he had was Fuzzy Bunny, which he grew to love even though Fuzzy was kind of mean sometimes. But, most of the time, Harvey was somewhat depressed.

To keep his hopes up, he tried to only focus on his education. He studied, and studied, and 4 years later, in 2001, he graduated with his bachelor’s degree. He could have ended his college years there, but since learning and science were the only things keeping him happy, he kept studying for years. On June 15th, 2007, he would get his doctorate degree. Yet, something terrible happened just three days before that.

The Totem Curse- Chapter 10: “What Have I Done?!?”

Continued From Chapter 9

After receiving the phone call, Harvey quickly got ready and walked as fast as he could to get to the National Institute of the Silly Sciences, which wasn’t easy with his crutches.

However, before he could get there, he ran in to a very familiar face…

Harvey: “LAVENDA!?! How the heck did YOU get here?”

Lavenda: “Well…it’s a long story…but-”

A gust of wind blows through her hair. Her brown hair falls off, revealing some platinum blonde hair underneath, but Lavenda quickly puts it back on before anyone truly notices, except Harvey.

Harvey: “Are you wearing a WIG!?!”

Lavenda: “No. Why would I be?”

Harvey: “Why should I even believe you? You worked with Dr. Bill Nye and Summer Sunshine, who are in jail. You should be there, too!”

Lavenda: “Err…I…GOTTA GO!”

Lavenda quickly runs away.

Harvey: “What a weirdo.”

Just then Harvey remembered why he was even going to the N.I.A., and enters the building, showing the people there his student ID. You see, the N.I.A. and N.I.S.S. are sister schools, and a student from one can easily visit the other.

A few seconds after he got there, a young woman about Charlotte’s age ran to him. She was the one who called him.

Charlotte’s Friend: “Oh, thank goodness you’re here! There’s something wrong with Charlotte! Follow me.”

When they finally reached the art room, Harvey could not believe what he saw. Charlotte was sitting alone, looking at pictures famous art pieces and then at her own self portrait, and started to cry.

Drawing.png

Charlotte: “I’ve- I’ve failed my parents. I never became a great artist like them, or any of those famous guys.”

Harvey: “What are you saying? I saw the art you sent the university- oh right, it was to the fake N.I.S.S. The real universities just gave us free scholarships. They didn’t bother to see how good of an artist you were.

Charlotte: “But…the N.I.A. has found out that I’m terrible at it! They’re kicking me out! I have to leave tomorrow!”

Harvey: “You’re kidding, right? I saw some of the art you did as a kid. They were amazing!”

Charlotte: “Well, I lied. None of those were mine. My pen pal from Counterfeit Island sent them to me.”

Harvey: “Why did you do this Charlotte? I thought you were the kind of person who never lies, and look at you! You deserve to be kicked out.”

Charlotte: “Now you’re just like everyone else. I thought we were best friends. Now we are just cousins. Why does no one understand what I’ve been through! You just sit and complain about your parents, when mine are gone! You’re such a jerk!”

Harvey: “Now you’re like Robert! This is exactly what he did to me! I’m so happy that he’s gone. But that dream last night-”

Charlotte: “No, Robert didn’t do anything wrong, you did!”

Harvey: “SHUT UP!”

Charlotte: “WHY DOESN’T THE WORLD JUST SHUT UP!?! Everyone hates my art, including YOU!!!”

Charlotte takes out her mother’s paintbrush and ruins her self portrait.

Drawing (1)

Charlotte starts to cry again.

Charlotte: “What…have I done?!?

Harvey gives her a sad look, but turns around and starts to walk out of the room. However, just then the paintbrush starts glowing and floats in the air. Harvey stops, shocked.

Charlotte: “What is going on-”

The paintbrush flies into Charlotte’s forehead. She falls unconsciousness.

Harvey: “NOOOOO!!!!! That…was one of the…totems…”

Harvey starts to cry like a baby.

Harvey: “Why was I so mean to her? Why…is everything my fault? First Robert, and now Charlotte? I’m…alone.”

Charlotte wakes up.

Charlotte: “HAHA. Who needs this stupid place?!? I’ll just have a better job. I’ll go steal art for a living. Bye!”

Harvey: “What have I done?!?”

P.S.- I did in fact make those pics myself 🙂

The Totem Curse- Chapter 9: Something’s Strange…

Continued from Chapter 8…

Crawfish: “What are you land-lovers looking at?!?”

Charlotte: “Um, not to be rude, but we’re looking at YOU, pirate dude. It’s not everyday that you see a creepy pirate come out of nowhere…hehe…er…arggg?!?”

Crawfish gives them an angry look, and pulls out his sword.

Harvey: “I don’t think this guy is so nice…WE GOTTA GET OUT OF HERE!!!”

Charlotte: “Uh oh…we only have one choice- JUMP!”

Harvey: “But my broken leg!”

Charlotte: “There’s no time!”

Harvey and Charlotte jumped of the boat and swam away…well, the only person actually swimming was Charlotte, Harvey was just holding on to her arm. He had to abandon his crutches. After about an hour or so, they made it back to shore and started walking back to the N.I.S.S., but since Harvey didn’t have his crutches, it was challenging.  Charlotte had to go back to the National Institute of the Arts, so some of the people at the N.I.S.S. helped Harvey get back to his dorm, and brought him some extra crutches from the nurses at the university.

When he got to his room, he noticed that Silva wasn’t there. Freedom at last. But then Harvey realized that something strange was going on… Why did a pirate pop out of nowhere- one that looked like he was from the 1700s?

Then Harvey remembered that prophecy that Robert showed him before he got sucked into the time machine- one of the lines said, “The third prefers to sail the seven seas.” That meant that Captain James Crawfish was the fourth one to suffer from the Totem Curse…but it must have been too late. He already was evil. Yet, how did he get to 1997 in the first place? Then he remembered- Robert Mordred Jones. Did he mess time up? Well, Harvey didn’t find out what really happened until 10-some years later, and Mordred/Robert was only half of what really happened.

That night, when Harvey fell asleep, he had the worst nightmare in his life.

He was standing in the fake N.I.S.S. There was a woman with platinum blonde hair that he had never seen before, yet she looked familiar to someone…not Summer Sunshine, but someone else.. There was also a weird cyborg jester dude next to her.

The cyborg jester said:

Harvey: “I don’t know binary!”

The woman sighed.

Harvey: “What-”

And then the woman said:

“It doesn’t matter what he said. Anyway, why keep running? You’re gonna be bad any day now. Just give up, golden carrot. Just accept the fact that you’re no good, that you have no use in the world. You’re NOTHING. The only power you have is that totem. Use it for darkness, but also for power. Your destiny was already written for you, and you can not change what is fact. WAKE. UP!!!”

At that moment, Harvey woke up and screamed the loudest he ever had in his life. And then he started to cry. He lost all hope.

That morning, however, before he could realize what his nightmare really meant, he got a telephone call from one of Charlotte’s friends…and what she told him was bad. Very bad…

And yes, I know that Captain Crawfish didn’t get much screen time, but that will change in later chapters, as he will get a bigger role. There just wasn’t much for him to do at this point in the plot.

The Totem Curse- Chapter 8: Welcome to the REAL N.I.S.S.

New Pop City (the Poptropica parody of New York City)

Harvey: “Wow, I can’t believe we are finally here! The REAL N.I.S.S.! It looks exactly like it did in the picture!”

Harvey holds up the original picture of the N.I.S.S. he had from before. The university looked…perfect.

Harvey: “I think I’m gonna…” *faints*

Charlotte: “Faint. Ugh….Just get up…these STUPID CRUTCHES!!! Why did your leg have to break?!?”

Harvey wakes up.

Harvey: “What…”

Charlotte: “Well, I gotta go to the National Institute of the Arts, which is only a few blocks away. Bye Harvey!”

Harvey: “Bye. I’ll see you this weekend, I guess.”

Harvey was so excited that he could barely walk with his crutches.

The Totem Curse- Chapter 7: The Aftermath

News about the explosion spread like wildfire. Soon almost everyone knew about the terrible liars, Dr. Bill Nye and Summer Sunshine.

When Harvey woke up, he was lying in a bed with his left leg in a cast. Charlotte was sleeping in another bed next to him to his right, and a a few familiar faces were to his left. There is also a doctor near him. She looked about 40 years old.

Harvey: “Ugh…where am I?!?”

Doctor: “In the hospital.”

Harvey suddenly remembered what happened- the epic chase scene, the prophecy, the N.I.S.S. being a fake, the time machine, and the explosion that caused him to be at the hospital in the first place.

The Totem Curse- Chapter 6: Half Man, Half Machine (Mordred’s Story Part 2)

It all started one sunny day. Mordred was once again going to the castle’s library, where he was going to get yet another book about astronomy. But, when he got there, he noticed something strange. Right where the book he was looking for was supposed to be, there was a dusty old book instead. It was called “The Dark Magic of the Totems.” Mordred got a weird feeling about it, but checked it out anyway, and went back to his house. He spent all night reading about the darkest secrets of the mysterious Villain Totems, not realizing that one of them, the astrolabe, was right next to him the whole time. No one other than the author of the book and Mordred knew what evil, terrible stuff was written in it. Maybe that’s a good thing.
